BLACK HISTORY MONTH Black History Month was the featured display in the library for the month of February. Americans have celebrated Black History Month since 1926 when Dr. Carter G. Woodson decided to take on the challenge of writing black Americans into the nation's history. he launched Negro History Week as an initiative to bring national attention to the contributions of black people throughout American history, and chose the second week of February because it marks the birthdays of two men who greatly influenced the black American population, Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. To celebrate, the library is featuring the history, culture and achievements of Black Americans during the month of February. Books and videos from the library collection were selected to highlight the many resources offered to the Cushing community on such topics as the history of slavery, the Harlen Renaissance, and the Civil Rights Movement.
HEALTHY LIVING MONTH Healthly Living was the theme of the display case at the library entrance for the month of February. This theme was tied in with many workshops offered by our health services throughout the month.
